The first Wild Card Reining Challenge in Las Vegas, Nevada was held May 25th through the 29th, 2016. Hosted by the South Point Hotel, Casino and Equestrian Center, the “Wild Card” was specifically created to offer young reining horses more time to receive the training they need to begin long and sound careers in the demanding sport of reining.

Record Win for Phil Rapp

NCHA Hall of Fame Rider Phil Rapp, cutting’s all-time leading money earner, with more than $8.8 million, won the 2017 Houston NCHA Mercuria World Series Open Finals on Saturday, March 4, with 227 points on Dont Stopp Believin, by Dual Rey.

It was Rapp’s tenth win in a Mercuria Finals, a record number for the series. In addition, Dont Stopp Believin LTE $224,933 is out of Dont Look Twice, who won the Mercuria Finals eight times, a record number for an individual horse.

Dont Stopp Believin is the first Mercuria NCHA World Series of Cutting winner out of a Mercuria winner.

The Western Riding Log with Kellie Hinely

Many beautiful western riding runs have been ruined by that pesky solitary log that appears in each of the four different AQHA approved patterns.

When most of the rider’s focus is keeping their lines true, and getting solid lead changes, taking the strides to and over the single log can throw off the entire run when the rider and horse are not full prepared. Just like getting down the timing of lead changes preparing for the log takes ample amounts of practice and patience.
